Saalumarada Thimmakka, fondly known as the “Mother of Trees,” is an iconic figure in India, renowned for her extraordinary contributions to environmental conservation. Born in a humble village in Karnataka, she overcame numerous challenges in her life to leave an indelible mark on nature and society.
Her journey began with a simple yet profound act—planting and nurturing over 385 banyan trees along a 4-kilometer stretch of highway near her village. With limited resources but immense determination, she and her husband cared for the saplings as if they were their own children, ensuring they thrived in the harsh conditions.
